There are many components to the VMware vSphere solution. It is important to know the difference between vSphere, ESXi and vCenter. The difference between vSphere, ESXi and vCenter
VMware is a software company that develops several software product groups specifically to provide various virtual solutions. There are many cloud products, data center products, desktop products, etc.
vSphere is a software suite that comes under Data Center Product. VSphere is similar to the Microsoft Office suite that contains many programs like MS Office, MS Excel, MS Access, etc. Like Microsoft Office, vSphere is also a software suite that contains many software components such as vCenter, ESXi, vSphere client, etc. So, a combination of all of these software components is vSphere. vSphere is not a special program that you can install and use, “It’s just a package name that contains other subcomponents.”
ESXi, vSphere client and vCenter are components of VMware vSphere. ESXi Server is the most important part of vSphere. ESXi is a virtual server. He is the first kind of supervisor. All virtual machines or the guest operating system are installed on the ESXi server. To install and manage these virtual servers above ESXi Server, you will need another part of the vSphere group called vSphere client. Now, the vSphere client allows administrators to connect to ESXi servers and access or manage virtual machines. VSphere client is HTML5 / based management portal. The administrator logs in to the Web Browser to access the vSphere client to manage ESXi servers. The vSphere for Windows or C # vSphere client is no longer available and is replaced by an HTML5-based vSphere client in vSphere 6.7 which eliminates the need to install vSphere Client to access an ESXi host. So now what is vCenter? Why do we need it? Try cloning the current virtual machine using only the vSphere client without the vCenter server.
The vCenter server is another part of the vSphere suite. There are two flavors of vCenter servers. The vCenter server can be installed on Windows Server or it can be a Linux virtual machine. VMware will stop the Winodws-based vCenter Server and Linux-based vCenter only in the future. VMware vCenter Server is a centralized management application that allows you to centrally manage virtual machines and ESXi hosts. The vSphere client is used again to access vCenter Server and manage ESXi servers at the end. A vCenter server is mandatory for organizations that need enterprise features like vMotion, VMware High Availability, VMware Update Manager, VMware Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS) etc. For example, you can easily clone your existing virtual machine into a vCenter server. So vCenter is another important part of the vSphere suite. You must purchase the vCenter Server License separately.
The difference between vSphere, ESXi and vCenter
The graphic above shows the vSphere collection in the most descriptive way. vSphere is a product suite, ESXi is a physical monitoring software installed. VSphere Client HTML5 is used to access the ESXi Server to create and manage virtual machines on the ESXi Server. The vCenter server is installed as a virtual machine on top of the ESXi server, and it can also be a Linux (or virtual machine) virtual machine. The vCenter server can also be installed on a different standalone physical server, but why isn’t it defaulted correctly? VCenter Server is a vSphere component that is often used in a large environment where there are multiple ESXi hosts and virtual machines and requires advanced enterprise features from vSphere. The vCenter server can be accessed by a vSphere client for management purpose. Therefore, it uses the vSphere client to directly access the ESXi Server in a small environment. In a larger environment, the vSphere client is used again to access the vCenter Server to manage ESXi Server.
